This is one of the best danmei horror novels! The Kaleidoscope of Death is a slow-burn romance and is especially cute.
The romance between MC and ML is indeed the cherry on top. The tacit understanding these two have makes them the perfect partners when they're challenging the doors. It feels totally realistic when MC and ML finally get together, particularly after the harrowing life-and-death incidents they go through together. MC pampers ML a lot, playing along with his outlandish antics (which delivers humor for us readers).
It has a very elaborate plot; all side characters are unique and with their own motives. I am very impressed by the plot of the doors (they are absolutely logical, and it is possible to pass them without the halo of the main character).
This novel has good world-building and characters. The author reveals everything so slowly as the plot progresses. Then you will start to grasp this world you are introduced to and how it works.
